I have to assume that Dr. Towfigh is too busy to keep the forum working or that she has finally burned out on trying to provide a forum for people to discuss their hernia repair options.

At least, in the long run, there was a relatively short time when the site was very productive and helpful to many. But, in a way similar to much of social and mainstream media, the flow of information has degraded. At least she is keeping the old discussions alive for those people lucky enough to stumble across them while searching on the internet.

For anyone who does find this Discussion area and wishes to create a Discussion, be aware that you have to pick a “Forum” in order for the Discussion to be created. It’s one of the boxes below this text box.

I have really enjoyed learning about this difficult subject, and Dr. Towfigh was very enthusiastic and helpful in the beginning, with her FDA interactions and her ACQHC work but it looks like those days are over. Hopefully, at the very least, these old Discussions (threads) will still be available over the coming years. They still have value and will be one of the few readily available sources of information.

Thank you Dr. Towfigh for at least trying to create a platform for informing hernia patients. With sites like this one shut down all that will be left is the pamphlets in the waiting room, the various ambulatory surgery clinic pages, and the pre-surgery informed consent forms. We will have regressed to the old risk levels. Getting a hernia repaired will be a gamble.

Trust me… I am working on it.

And I am so glad there are still daily users that log in to get educated from the Forum. There is SO MUCH CONTENT! Many of them are thanks to you, Good Intentions.

Running a discussion forum is not easy when you are constantly trying to beat the hackers, the spam, and update the glitches. I haven’t been able to post myself on the News Feed for several weeks….

Typical clinic page, from a very well-known clinic. At least they provide a number, although it is buried at the end. 10% chance of chronic pain.

“What are the possible side effects or complications of the treatment?

There’s a small risk of general surgical complications, such as excessive bleeding, wound infection or reactions to the anesthesia. Some people have difficulty urinating for a short time after surgery. About 10% of people report chronic groin pain after inguinal hernia repair, possibly due to nerve damage.”
