Patient-Reported Outcome Measures after inguinal hernia repair – a new study
Despite the International Guidelines suggesting that mesh usage is supported by enough evidence to say firmly that it is the preferred method of hernia repair, others are facing the fact the field is still chaotic and undefined. Hopefully they will make progress with their efforts. The field is still full of the contradiction of professional surgeons supporting mesh usage on one side, but saying that there is no clear evidence for its long-term benefit to the patient on the other. The internal conflict for an aware individual surgeon must be intense. Meanwhile, the device makers are selling as much mesh as they can and funding efforts to market it.
