I had an open non-mesh (Shouldice repair) Inguinal hernia repair 8 days ago. Although I feel better in regards to my daily pain, I still have pain at the incision and it’s very sensitive. I still can’t wear jeans or underwear as it seems to rub and irritate my incision. My incision is about 5 inches long.
Also, coughing and laughing causes quite a bit of sharp pain inside. im still taking Advil and Tylenol, I’ve never taken any narcotics or stronger pain meds.

Is this pain normal at this stage? I read so much about chronic pain and nerve damage, etc., and I’m worried that this could happen to me. Is it too early to be concerned? What are the signs and symptoms of nerve pain or chronic pain?
