The British Hernia Center offers their perspective
I wish moderator of this forum {drtowfigh } would comment here .No one ever mention here those doctors ?
There is no evidence-derived basis for believing that the use of mesh is more responsible for chronic inflammation than biological mesh. We would suggest you look at technique, skill and level of experience LONG before the materials. Many, if not most surgeons using mesh to repair hernias apply the mesh in a way we do NOT use. Fundamentally, they apply it like a ‘patch’ on the outer surface of the abdominal muscle wall. Not only does that fail to achieve a fully tension-free and distortion-free repair (as ours does) but it risks contact with surrounding tissue and possible complications arising from that, perhaps adhesions. As you now understand, we have found the very best way to introduce the mesh is within the abdominal wall muscle. Between the layers, if you will.
There are precious few real hernia specialists and two in the USA that we know and respect are on the two coasts…
