I’m having my poly mesh removed from an inguinal hernia repair because of foreign body implant rejection and will be having a conventional tissue repair.
Does anyone know if you can have the repair done with a bio sutture that dissolves or does it have to be permanent with poly sutture?
I’m pretty sure the surgeon said he wouldn’t be using poly but I can’t be sure.

Another option is stainless steel, which has been used successfully at Shouldice Hospital for decades…and Dr. Sbayi, who worked there for a year, and is now at Stonybrook in New York, uses the same stainless steel too.

The surgeon can use whatever suture material they want to use. There is a variety and many of them are synthetic polymers. Silk is another material that is used sometimes.
