Vernal Hernia Repair
I had a ventral hernia repair surgery one week ago at UCSF. My hernia was caused by drainage tubes inserted below my open heart surgery at the Cleveland Clinic on Mar 12, 2018. I was offered Opioid pain control but I did not take it. I read that sore throat can follow this surgery. I noticed that it is difficult to hack up mucus drainage since the surgery involves the hacking muscles. After one week I am pain free. My doctor is one of the best and he was able to do a non-mesh repair – using my own tissues.

Thanks for replying. I did not have a sore throat but my voice was weak so that was probably from the breathing tube. Dr Harris said the size of the hernia was smaller than he expected so the non-mesh repair made sense.

I think that the sore throat is caused by the breathing tube they stick down it, for general anesthesia.
Thanks for posting, it’s good to get first hand accounts of other places and the types of surgery that they do. Your ventral hernia is probably an incisional hernia, from the incisions that they made for the tubes.
