This has ruined my life so far.I had to drop out of school and many other issues have arised as a result of this.I border on the verge of being homeless as well as my mom since I can no longer perform my job duties.

Dr. Towfigh has experience with that plug and patch, see her Twitter post below. Maybe she has thoughts about a surgeon who will see you and at least discuss options with you. You might want to give your general location again, maybe your insurance network also.

I have spoke with Dr.Towfigh before about my options and unfortunately my healthcare insurance is Medicaid at the moment and where I live my doctor choice is VERY limited. I know my own body very well. And I have had time to review what removal risks are. I need it out and my only choice is to pay cash to have it removed.Dr. Repta in my state of AZ. or possibly Dr. Tomas. The Las Vegas doctor I have read too many negative reviews about.

    quote Good intentions:

I had forgotten about this list. I’ve considered starting a new topic on my own recovery from mesh removal. Finally, a year later, it seems like the ordeal might actually be ending. More good days than bad. Less time managing the damage zone and more time doing normal life things. I’m actually planning for the future and acting on those plans now, unlike even just a few months ago when I would get distracted by new issues at the damage zone and go back to living day by day. Three years of mesh, one year of recovery from its removal. Four years since making the “smart” decision to avoid future problems with incarceration, and taking the advice of the surgeon who promised that I would be back in action, stronger than ever, after just a few weeks.

I still stay in touch with Dr. Peter Billing, who did the mesh removal. He has left the practice he cofounded, Eviva, and is starting a new practice. Apparently he wants more freedom to choose the type of surgery that he does. Eviva was primarily focused on weight loss surgery, and hernia repair and mesh removal were “side lines”, my impression from my experience overall with Eviva. He will be working in Seattle and Kirkland Washington. I’ll post his new contact information when it is available, which should be soon.

From what I’ve gathered over these years of collecting information, there are actually successful ways to use mesh for hernia repair, with no way to confirm which is which though. The surgeon has much freedom to try whatever they would like to try, as long as the patient survives the surgery. And the surgeon decides how involved they would like to be in the patient’s recovery. So it’s up to the individual surgeon to take responsibility for what they do. Not rely on the device makers’ advice.

Even though I can’t imagine having more mesh implanted in my own abdomen, because of the reaction I had to my TEP procedure with Bard Soft Mesh, it might be that Dr. Billing’s repair method is one of the good ones. I have not asked but I think that he stays in touch with his hernia repair patients also, so knows what works. He uses TAPP and a J&J mesh (now Ethicon) for his hernia repairs, as I understand things. I’ll try to get more details in the future.

This is a good list that we should keep updated. I am open to responding to any messages through the site.

Very happy to hear you are doing better.

Have you contacted The Shouldice Hernia clinic in Toronto? I think they may also perform removals.

I contacted them about that 4 months ago and their reply was they will offer it in the near future.

Keep looking.Find one that will do imaging to detect your hernias.Mine were so small it took a CT Scan and Ultrasound to detect them.If you can I would see Dr. Towfigh in a heartbeat or one of the other specialist that are mentioned on here.50-60 repairs a year=not experienced enough in my book.Yes allergy tests should be done especially if one has existed in the past.I have found as you age your body changes.

For example,I never was caffeine sensitive until I was about 37.Same thing with latex.I was fine until about a year and a half of automotive school…I started getting itchy/rashes from gloves.Same thing with alcohol too lol.So you never know what and when your body might reject something.Remember you know your body better than anyone.I just saw a doctor today that blew me off.So next one tomorrow…..it gets very frustrating.

    Best of luck

This really is not right.I was told by the doctor who did it that it was 100% necessary if i wanted to live a normal life.I was told it would get bad and kill if not done.I was told it would never go bad as long as i never lifted too heavy or any other strenuous activity.I was so careful too.So what happens to me and the rest of us who cant get this fixed properly?? I KNOW my body and I know what needs done.Who fixes this?

“Also, Medicaid is very limiting as few specialists are available to you outside of major County-based training programs.”

That’s what’s gonna do me in.

    Which surgeon are you seeing?

What is stopping the ones you’ve seen from removing the mesh?

I am almost certain that Dr. Petersen or Dr. Brown will remove the mesh, since they are very aware of the problems that mesh creates, and definitely anti-mesh. Dr. Petersen works outside of the insurance companies and has a basic flat-rate that he charges. Have you called them? They will explain everything and help you get out there. He has been around a long time so there are some bad stories but overall, he seems to have a good reputation.

I’m broke except for about $500 in the bank.No job, savings,my mom and I are the last of our family and we know no one,no car.

I got bad fast…very fatigued and can’t move well with constant pain, bloat feeling, pain that radiates around my back,my hips are killing me bad with pain,a constant feeling of getting hit in the testicles, pelvic pain, pinching, stabbing pains, mesh rubbing/stabbing me,I can only sleep 3-4 hours then have to stand, sit, stand repeat.

Only a matter of time before we can’t afford rent and are homeless again…..I don’t know what to do…

Thank you for all of your posts.

It seems you don’t even have a diagnosis yet. In Arizona, there are few surgeons who handle complications after hernia repair. Also, Medicaid is very limiting as few specialists are available to you outside of major County-based training programs.

Have you considered seeing someone at U of Arizona or Mayo Scottsdale?

If I had better insurance I’d see you in a heartbeat. No,unless approved my insurance states I have to see doctors that are local. This is so hopeless. My mom and I have been homeless 3 times in the last 15 years and I’ve always fought so hard to find employment so we could get off the street…

I was going to start school to finally get a good job so I could take care of my mom.And now I can’t.I have tried so hard. But this is a game ender for me.I can hardly get out of bed.I have the body of someone who is dying.

This got bad fast. And I truly know deep down inside that if I can’t find someone to help me I’m in serious trouble.Like I said I have no $$ or literally anyone else in my life except my mom and she’s disabled. It kills me that I keep and kept trying and this is what happened. And believe me….I’m a fighter…I don’t give up ….but this IS the beginning of the end for me.

I don’t qualify for anything as far as assistance goes either. This is why I have accepted my fate..cause I do not have anything or anyone to help me.Thank you all for reading.I can’t believe mesh has ruined me and my life.

I’d do anything for a doctor to remove it.It limits what I can do.If it’s out…..ill I take the pain.At least I know it won’t finally do me in.I don’t know anyone…it’s just me and my mom literally.

School was my last chance to come out with a career but I got worse in the meantime. I really am at the bottom of my rope. I can feel the mesh “bite” me and rub on me plus a whole bunch of other symptoms.

just want it out.my pcp believes it’s the mesh too

I hear you. I’ve been there. I know exactly what you’re going through.

You need to get the mesh out pronto.

I took antidepressants to deal with the mental part until the mesh was out. There’s light at the end of the tunnel.

I’ve always taken care of my mom up until now.Now she takes care of me…..on less than 700.00 a month. No transportation, nothing saved up in the bank, and we just had to ask for help from a local charity to move us into a new aptapartment as the last one went up on rent.

i honestly can’t work now as this has gotten so bad.
My insurance is Arizona insurance. It is called Mercy Care by Accchs. No one like Dr. Towfigh or any of the good doctors who understand mesh accept it

I will not let myself sit around and rot….I have been preparing my soul for its final journey and am ready to go if this Dr I’m going to see does nothing.

I am ready. If all falls apart…. October 31st will be my “going home” day.At least I’m welcome there. So….in the meantime we shall see what happens…or doesn’t happen.

Like I said I am at peace with myself but will not let this take who I am with it.And no,this is not a cry for help. Some things are game changers and some game enders….

Death does not exist…..we don’t really die.

I am in a pretty bad predicament here and have been coming to peace with myself for the last two years. If I’m bad pain wise……I mean worse off than now, cause now I can’t move certain ways, sleep 3-4 hrs, can’t sit, stand long, walk too far….been homeless too many times.

I suffer from manic depression and no way to get this mesh out
