I have also exchanged a couple emails with Stephen and am planning a non mesh hernia repair with Dr. Kang in April of 2024. By the way, when are you planning to have your surgery and are you currently experiencing any pain? I look forward to your updates regarding your surgical experience. Thank you.

I may be incorrect, but it seems the spammer ads are worse and bigger. I just don’t find this new format user friendly for posting or finding past threads. By the way @Mark H hope your recovery is going well post Dr. Kang’s surgery in October. I am also planning to travel to Korea in April for hernia repair by Dr. Kang. Reading your past threads has greatly reduced my anxiety….THANKS!

@herniated and @good-intentions
Thank you both for the helpful advice. I have emailed Stephen Kwon and hope to hear from him soon. I may consider a consult with Dr. Towfigh if I do not hear back from Stephen Kwon in the next few days. I am also open to contacting Biohernia and the Desarda Clinic. One thing I am sure of is that I do not want mesh due to the high incidence of chronic groin pain being reported post mesh implant. Thank you all.

Hello all. After reading various members reviews of Dr. Kang and Gibbeum Hospital, I am considering having surgery with Dr. Kang. I am not interested in laparoscopic mesh repair, which is the only option I have here in California. What is the best way to contact Dr. Kang and schedule surgery with him? I would appreciate anyone’s advice.

cpk303, I read your post with great interest. First of all, I hope you are recovering well post surgery. I was recently diagnosed with direct left inguinal hernia, there is a small reducible bump in my left groin, but no pain. I am also considering traveling to Korea to have Dr. Kang perform my surgery. According to Dr. Towfigh and various posts, patients with open surgery and no mesh still can experience chronic pain. Just wondering if any others who have had Dr. Kang’s open no mesh surgery are experiencing any chronic pain post surgery.

Alan, thank you for your response. Stephen said he would forward my information/request to Dr. Kang’s office, but I have yet to hear anything back. I plan to follow up with that this week. Appreciate your updates, as they are very encouraging to all those who may see Dr. Kang. Hope you continue to do well.

Hi Alan. Just read your one year update and glad to hear you are doing great. I am also planning to fly to Korea in April of 2024 for surgery with Dr. Kang. Just recently received an email informing me that Stephen Kwon has retired, which increases my anxiety level a bit higher, since I’ve read that Stephen has been very helpful to non Korean speaking foreign patients. May I ask if you were suffering from pain prior to your Kang surgery? Also, what type of sutures did Dr. Kang use for you (absorbable or non absorbable)? Hope you continue to do well Alan. Regards, Max.

That will all be a big help to me when I go to Korea. In regards to scheduling surgery with Dr. Kang, I previously exchanged a few emails with a Stephen Kwon. I notice that either you nor @Mark H mention Stephen as a contact person. Just wondering if there is now a new contact person/liaison for Dr. Kang at Gibbeum Hospital. Wishing both of you a 100 percent recovery.

Would you mind sharing any tips on getting to and from Gibbeum hospital, transportation from the airport, and where you stayed? Any tips would be very helpful in planning my trip to see Dr. Kang in April. Thanks!

@mark-h, I followed your informative thread with great interest. Glad to hear you are doing well in your post op recovery. It seems like you are on your way to a full recovery. Just wondering, were you experiencing any pain with your hernia and for how long before you scheduled your surgery with Dr. Kang? Also, were you aware if you had a direct or indirect hernia prior to your scheduled surgery? I have exchanged a couple emails with Stephen Kwon and am working up the courage to schedule the surgery with Dr. Kang. Reading about your positive surgical experience greatly reduces my anxiety and provides encouragement to proceed. Other than an annoying reducible hernia, I am currently not experiencing any pain. However, I know it’s something I will have to address, and the sooner the better. Wishing you good health and thank you for your very informative and useful updates.

Hi @mark-h. I’ve been following your thread and been anxiously waiting to hear about your surgery with Dr. Kang. I hope you are recovering well. Would you mind sharing your surgical experience abroad? I’m also dealing with an inguinal hernia, not sure direct or indirect. I am struggling with how to proceed in regards to surgeon and options. Thank you.
