Hi everyone.
I’m working on a new and improved HerniaTalk site. Let’s get rid of all the spammy problems of Unapproved posts.

Please let me know what you’d like to see on the new site.

Thank you!!

Thanks for your patience. The new site is being built and we are including all of your feedback in order to improve the site to reach to more users and patients with hernias.

in the meantime, private message me if having problems posting. I am routinely manually Approving your posts as fast as I can.

Hello Dr. Towfigh. Overall, the design of the site seems effective. There is a spot for “stickies” aka pinned topics. The path for starting a new topic, or thread, is clear. The message function and how to use it is clear. When the site was working right, new people were joining and meaningful conversations were occurring.

The major problem with the site has been the arbitrary destruction of people’s posts. I’m not sure that you realize how damaging that was. Some of us put quite a bit of time and effort in to considering a person’s problem and writing it in to a post to give them some useful information, only to have it completely wiped out, gone forever. I suspect that some of the more helpful people, like Chaunce1234, have stopped contributing because of this waste.

In addition to a person’s work being destroyed when they tried to post it, the message function stopped working. I still have empty boxes in my Message center, both from the people who tried to contact me and my reply to let them now that I could not see their message.

So, I think that making the site stable and sensible will be a dramatic improvement. If a post violates a rule, please make it so that the content of the post is saved, and a sensible error message is generated. It’s the destruction of people’s work that has hurt the site the most, I think.

As many have already said this site is a great resource, both for hernia patients seeking help , and patients who are experiencing problems. I think that it could also be a great resource for doctors if they were aware of it and not afraid to read about bad things that are happening in the field. The site should really have many more views than it does.

Clicking “Post Reply” now and hoping. I’ve saved my work, just in case.

drtowfigh my post was unapproved. Guess HerniaTalk didn’t like my suggestions for the new and improved version! Haha

First things first, Thank You for this valuable resource and your willingness to continue improving it for Us, the patients. One thing that may help when searching for a particular topic is to have a way to organize posts into categories. So, a way to organize the posts like we do email: alphabet, most recent …. but also organize according to topic with a way to post under specific category headers i.e. Hernia Surgery- subsets for each type of repair and each type of hernia, Mesh Removal, Chronic Pain, Recovery, Success Stories, just to name a few (maybe there is already a way to do this and I’m not tech savvy enough) haha. Also, under some categories, documents containing information about that topic. Perhaps, printable resources like at a doctors’ office. These documents could be helpful when trying to explain our situation to a new doctor. I have found this to be very upsetting and difficult to do and have often said “I know this sounds crazy and I’m not sure I would believe it if it hadn’t happened to me”! These are my thoughts for now and I will continue to think if there are any other ways to make HerniaTalk more useful. Once again, thank you for giving of your time and the support this forum provides. Blessings for 2020!

Maybe a technical center that has diagrams of the different types and kinds, like direct, indirect, and perhaps the different reconstruction or repair types? Or maybe a healing section that goes into the way the body integrates collagen, etc and the timeframes of that process, how long sutures tend to stay in the body, etc so people might be less inclined to “come back” too soon? With mine, I personally wish I was told that info at my post op, I only learned that from a neighbor who is a surgeon and this was months after it was done. I wish I knew, personally. Seems like the more you know the better chance you have to get through the process of healing.

Please provide me with your wants and needs for the new upcoming site. Obviously the bugs will be fixed. But what added benefits would you like?
