Hernia repair with Dr Kang
Hi, i had a inguinal hernia repair by Dr Kang almost 6 weeks ago and everything went smoothly. I am from the UK and did not want mesh surgery. I happened to be in Seoul and I found Dr Kang and his Method.
I stayed one night in hospital and travelled back to my apartment the next day. I took it easy for 2 weeks as suggested and now I am able to do almost everything. I am still being careful wit heavy bags. I have had surgery previously in the Uk and the recovery time was much longer. I am also happy not to have more mesh in my body. I would recommend Dr Kang and his method to anyone considering it. Both Dr Kang and Stephen were so warm and helpful and gave me much of their time. I am very happy that I found him. -

Thanks William. I am now back in the Uk. I had rather a lot of luggage and after 7 weeks of recovery I felt okay to travel back. I was definitely more careful and thoughtful with my luggage than I usually would be. I feel fine since arriving home and everything still seems to be good with my surgery.

Hi William,
I am flying back to the Uk on Sunday. I am busy preparing to go so apologies for the delay.The operation cost was 2000 US dollars and that included the overnight hospital stay, ultrasound, tests and consultation before and after the op. I think bilateral hernias cost is around 3000 US dollars.
I had some discomfort after the surgery, but no great pain. Dr Kangs advice was to rest for 2 weeks, so I listened to him and to my body. I began to increase activity after 2 weeks and this felt quite natural. I think 3 or 4 weeks with a small luggage would be just fine. I just think it’s important to listen to your body and do what feels right.
Prior to the the operation I had some discomfort but no real pain. The discomfort I felt seemed to get progressively worse as time went on and I felt the hernia was getting slowly bigger. I have a very active job so I think this possibly increased the pressure on the hernia.

Brilliant Faith, very helpful. It isn’t often we get people who have had such operations posting and many don’t post after a successful operation so I an making the most of the opportunity! I hope it isn’t too taxing for you!
Wow – 7 weeks!
If you don’t mind me asking how much approximately has it all cost, operation and stay.
I am asking as I am seriously considering Dr Kang repair, I doubt I’d stay 7 weeks maybe 3 to 4.
Did you have or have you got any post operation pain?

I have been in Korea for approximately 7 weeks post op by the time I leave. I am on a short holiday now with a suitcase 5 weeks post op. I am still being careful though with my luggage.It was a local anaesthetic, I didn’t get any of the after affects of general anaesthetic.
The hernia was a bit larger than a golf ball. Its hard to describe what size it was. It wasn’t huge, but not tiny either.
I’m not sure about your last question as to what happens after a year or two if I have complications. This hopefully won’t be an issue, but perhaps Dr Kang would be able to answer this question better.

It’s good to hear from people who have had surgery. If you don’t mind a few more questions…How long will you stay in Korea post op before coming back to uk?
Was it local anaesthetic?
How big was hernia? I’m not sure how to size mine really.
What happens if after a year or two you have any complications?

Yes, i had a inguinal hernia surgery about 10 years ago in the Uk and they used mesh. This was before I knew about what mesh does to your body. I have had issues with my body and muscular tightness since the mesh and I think the second hernia could possibly be due to this.
I did not want any more mesh in my body, which is why I found Dr Kang. -

Sorry I’m new to this site and not sure how replies work so I hope you see this.
The Covid restrictions are very good here in Seoul, masks are worn everywhere. Everything at The hospital is very organised and clean. I stayed at the hospital for the full day of my op(surgery was late morning), and also stayed that night and left around 11am the following day. I even took the subway home, using the elevators, but that method of transport might not be suitable for everyone. I had to quarantine for 2 weeks when I came to Seoul, but fortunately I was planning to stay for a long vacation anyway.
