A common medical procedure that parallels hernia repair in many ways. FDA, etc.
The similarities are striking. New technology, imprecise estimates (“large majority”), barely involved FDA, lawsuits, more “informed consent” information the proposed solution.
I did not have to dig through the internet to find this. It’s a front page article on the theguardian.com web site.
Unfortunately, the article itself uses imprecise wording at times to hype up the story. But the former FDA advisor’s comments seem significant.

It seems a lot of the possible complications are glossed over. I get that in private healthcare hence the quote in the article about they wouldn’t have any customers if they were told all the possible complications!
But I’ve had NHS surgeons gloss over the complications too. And that’s a free service in the most part.
