I’m waiting on an email consultation with Dr. Shirin Towfigh. Been undiagnosed 6 years. Did anyone go undiagnosed with a hernia , even with seeking medical doctors for years? Am unable to stand now , walk. If I find out what is wrong I will travel or be transported out of state. It’s been a long road.

Sorry to hear about your pain and lack of a diagnosis! Yes, it is more common than you think to have a hidden or occult hernia go undiagnosed, especially in women, which was my case. This is one of the areas that Dr. Towfigh specializes in. Imaging can be helpful when read by the right expert. If you are able to travel to see a true “hernia expert”, that would probably be the most beneficial. I understand how difficult the travel can be when in so much pain. I have traveled around and across the country in that very same situation. I hope you have a good support system and can find an answer soon. It is great that you are getting Dr. Towfigh’s opinion. Best wishes!

I had severe groin pain, inflammation and swelling but no visual lump. Over a year and a half of MRI’s, Cat scans, visit to a surgeon and no hernias showed on scans or physical examination . last surgeon thought maybe a sports hernia even though I was not active in any sports. Was sent to PT and PT said he was a 100% sure it wasn’t a sports hernia and he knew a surgeon who deals with groin issues and upon physical examination he diagnosed me with a hernia. Had surgery with him and get this it turns out I had two her ia on the same side: a direct and indirect hernia.
18 months of groin pain and finally diagnosed.
Unfortunately for me the mesh surgery went wrong and had to be removed 5 years later.
Goto a hernia specialist. Towfigh is a great start
