How the surgeons are influenced – trade journals.
I just browsed through the latest issue of General Surgery News and was struck by how much it is like a typical trade journal. Advertisements and articles promoting products. Two big mesh ads for Strattice and TelaBio are in it. The Strattice ad is especially commercial in that it offers a free replacement mesh for any mesh that is explanted. Like those old TV ads that sold bad products with a two for one replacement if the first one was defective. Lifetime supply of bad product. Just reading the ads and looking at the copy will make you kind of queasy.

Good catch. General Surgery News is the most widely read journal by surgeons. I never saw that Strattice ad. Very interesting that they would facility replace any explanted mesh. I wonder what the indications for explantation would be. Maybe infection?

Yes as you say, it’s like a trade advert for shoe polish or washing up liquid.
This struck me too … basically saying not for use with patients who have aversion to porcine material and/or Polysorbate 20. WARNINGS
I didn’t they they did tests prior?
