Interesting obvious reason to continue to train surgeons in pure tissue methods
Here is an interesting paper that illustrates how the intense focus on coverting all hernia repairs to mesh implantations has left a critical hernia problem unsupported. Hernia repair in an infected field. It seems so obvious, something that all surgeons should realize, once they understand the problems with mesh infection. Somehow, it’s apparently been overlooked.

That’s a good find Good Intentions. Hopefully it means tissue repairs will continue to be taught to some degree. The bassini repair perhaps could be re evaluated as it seems to have merit

yup. which is why I teach all my residents in the OR and also show up to the Morbidity and Mortality conference to educate the rest of the Department and remind them of the tissue repair options and how to best do them.
