I saw dr belyansky in May for issues with left side of bilateral inguinal hernia lap robotic with mesh jan 29, 2019 in Salt Lake City. He Told me if still in pain in 6+ weeks he would order a cat scan since the mri I brought to him did not show anything amiss. Yesterday I had my CT for dr Belyansky and I see him on Monday. Best wishes for a full recovery!

First followup with surgeon (7 weeks post op), last week’s visit and exam was with PA. Surgeon said an exam has the possibility of disrupting scar tissue around the mesh and causing pain. Surgeon examined both inguinal hernia areas with me coughing and said repair is intact. He suggested icing. He also said he sees abdomal bloating in other patients post op. He did not know why my thigh is numb over my left knee, he said that was very unusual. Thank you to Good Intentions and Dr Towfigh for your responses to my questions.

    Dr Towfigh,
Thank you for your response. I had a good heal for 6 weeks then because I had belly button incisional pain, abdomen bloat and numbness above my left knee I went to the PA week 6. The PA had me lay on the table preformed an exam of my abdomen and then had me lift my head and bear down a bit so he could check the belly bottom area. I left feeling fine then about 2 hours post exam I experienced burning and pain. I did not take any pain meds after surgery but after the exam last week I used pain meds for 4 days. It has abated and now I can walk my 2-3 miles a day but still feel intermittent pain in my lower abdomen/groin where the hernias were. I am hoping some tissues were inflamed during the exam and they will settle down but the pain I am experiencing where the hernias were located I had not felt since pre-surgery. Once again I appreciate your help with this as I am feeling unsure what to do.

7 weeks post op and mybirning numbness onto outer thigh has changed to a numbness above my knee. The PA said the inflammation around the nerves can cause this and chances are it would subside in about 3 months.

Dr towfigh, thank you for confirming all hernias are ok on an airplane. The information on the internet is confusing at best.
We are fortunate to have your input!

    Chaunce,
one 200mg dose decreased the pain last night and this morning I took another dose and I was able to walk 1.5 miles throughout the day pain free. Still have continuous numbness and when I bent over today I felt something slip quickly in and out in my groin crease.
I see the PA on Thursday morning and if I feel like I am not getting answers I will ask for the surgeon to come in and if I still do not get answers I will ask for a referral to Dr. Mahan who specializes nerve injury.
You made 2 very good suggestions and I am interested in expliloring both, I just put them on a question list for Thursdays appt! reducing the inflammation with NSAID and targeted physical therapy. Targeted physical therapy would be so useful a few weeks post op because a PT would know what to do to help me without interfering with the hernia healing.
thank you for taking time to help with this, both you and jnomesh have been a wealth of information and kindness, Sharon

Jnomesh, thank you for the information, this is all very new to me and I appreciate the advice. After I was released from sane day surgery I only used ice for pain management but tonight I took an ibuprofen 200mg thinking it may help with inflammation. I hope the issue resolves too!

Jnomesh, thank you for your response and thoughts. They mesh was placed tension free and I have yet to get the surgery report with mesh type.
Im still sleeping in my back and aside from the numbing tingling coolness on my outer thigh the pain occurres when walking our If clothing binds on it. Otherwise I am doing well a d a normal weight without diabetes. I hope it is temporary inflammation and will subside. The burning pain when walking is pretty intense and I sorry you are still in pain!

Dr vargo preformed lap surgery with a Davinci Robot bilateral inguinal hernia using mesh. I’m a 63 yr old female without prior issues until significant coughing due to bronchitis over New Years. Pain and numbness right side only. Until Saturday just healing twinges and I did not use any pain medication or otc products once home just ice so I have a good pain tolerance and this is really intense after 2-3 minutes of walking and any clothing rubbing in the leg crease when walking intensifies it.
Thank you for your input and thoughts I hope it is residual inflammation.

    Dr Brown,
Thank you for joining the forum!
The reseach you shared was both informative and interesting. The New York Times recently published an article on older surgeons and this research would have been a good addition to the article.

Dr. Towfigh and good intentions, thank you for your responses and kind thoughts! I asked Dr Vargo what he planned and he was going to use the davinci robotic to sew the inguinals hernias closed and place a piece of parietene mesh over both sites. Surgery was yesterday morning and I will not see the surgery repot until my follow up on feb 14 for all the details. I appriciate the support on this forum! I just developed the hernias over the holidays due to bronchitis coughing so this is all new to me and I had a lot of decisions to make quickly. We come to salt lake in the winter so after i ‘researched dr vargo’ on The web and I came early SLC to have him preform whichever procedure he thought Best. Dr. Towfigh you are correct I went into the interview knowing i had geographically I picked an experienced surgeon and trusted his judgement, I’ve read so much about you and your successful outcomes, thank you for helping all of us by participating in the forum! Good Intentions thank you for the links, you are a wealth of information on this forum! Thank you!
