However, it truly represents the Americas and not jus the US. Thus, about 6 years ago, we voted to change the name to the Americas’ Hernia Society.

Outer thigh is usually lateral femorocutaneous nerve issue. That can be injured or irritated with laparoscopic or robotic hernia repair with mesh. Less often with open repairs.

ModeratorMarch 11, 2019 at 2:27 am in reply to: Mesh Removal as an official topic for meetingsAgree we need more.
These are not closed door meetings, but open to whomever chooses to register and attend. It is quite expensive to broadcast the meetings themselves, whether live or on Youtube, and so only a handful of the larger, richer societies do so. Surgical conferences and meetings are on string budgets and surgeons no longer travel for meetings in the ways they used to in the past. The economy just does not allow for so much expense by the surgeon nor so much time away from a clinical practice.
It’s a multifactorial problem.

It is still used but rarely. It’s a highly morbid operation with many complications, pain, risk for nerve injury, cosmetic deformity, long recovery, and disability.

Hi there! Welcome to our Forum.
Ovitex offers a hybrid mesh. I use it in patients who are poor candidates for synthetic mesh but require mesh repair. I have had excellent results with it. It is not currently standard for inguinal hernia repair. -

There is no single perfect for everyone.

ModeratorMarch 2, 2019 at 12:17 am in reply to: Can Standing All Day Be A Contributing Factor For Developing Inguinal Hernias?Standing does not increase risk of hernia. It’s mostly a genetic predisposition and things that increase abdominal pressure may expedite a symptomatic hernia. These include chronic cough, straining for constipation.

type of instruments depends on type of mesh, area of mesh, etc.
