But then those who had surgrey with a shouldice procedure also suffered a possible sexual disfunction?

I kind of got tired of arguing my situation against mesh…every time it is the same story being told over and over again. The best I got was: I can try shouldice but I reserve the right to use mesh in the end if I feel the muscles are too weak…..incidentally two doctors claim I have weak muscles whereas one asked me what sports I do as I have strong muscles in his opinion…go figure

Yes when I contacted Dr.Muschaweck her secretary was very helpful and precise in answering. I am still considering going with her…

I would think the biggest fear should be chronic pain…not so much sexual dysfunction which I think it is rare…(unless I am told otherwise by more knowledgable people)

These footballers were treated for an hernia probably by Dr. Muschaweck

Yes biohernia works with surgeons among which Dr Muschaweck but only as an agent organising the staying medical appointment etc….I think they also provide an insurance somehow from what I read here…the surgeons are well known here and respected (at least for the most part )

Well I would understand that they tailor surgery to the patient which is why they can use one out of several options including mesh, although with preference without…the muschaweck procedure is tailored at sports hernias or small traditional ones if I am not mistaken…I think this center focus on mesh being the exception rather than the rule all else equal.. plus they add muschaweck on top of the available skillset

More reason to not have a mesh! How do athletes cope with a mesh?? I am still trying to find one that went for it and did fine. . .

The document at the start of the post mentions that another name for a sports hernia is indirect hernia…is this correct? ? I would think not…

Btw various procedures are mentioned because the biohernia doctors use them all…not just the mushaweck one which is used mostly in the Munich area I think

Well Messi suffered from a hernia but it could have been a sports one…couldn’t find any info on a surgery he might have done. And I think had he done it we would have read about it 🤔

Yes and of course recurrence rate should be discussed per hernia type and surgery procedure….I am starting believing that the person who will bring some light into the hernia circus should get the Nobel prize in analogy to what happened with the stomach ulcers and the discovery of bacteria being often the culprit (the doctor who discovered this I think got the prize )

As for the chance of recurrence can one doctor from the forum comment on what the recurrence rate was before mesh? Shouldice seems to have always had low recurrence rate if I am not mistaken…

Really interesting! Any thoughts on how long before this is widely available?

Yes it’s true…ah one doctor did mention a crazy number ie non mesh repair having 50% chance recurrence but I guess he might have referred to old simple stiching…or he was just young and already funnelled into a certain thought process…it’s funny to see how high a reputation the Swiss system has vs the reality of it

The tests will be in 3 months which I might still cancel but I would be interested to know in general…it’s clear now that I cannot have a tissue repair in Zurich. Btw I was given a choice 15% chronic pain rate which at least is an honest fact. I think I will either wait and have surgery in another country or just watch it and do nothing about it. Hopefully in say 10 years some new insights might be available…

Yes I agree 100%…to the point that I am thinking even the learning of the anatomy of the area might be overlooked these days…
