Thunder Rose, could I just ask ref Desarda… Why didn’t it make sense anatomically? Is it because it cuts good tissue?

I’m not as good with the biology/anatomy as you and other posters.

I understand Desarda repair cuts a piece of good tissue?

However isn’t it an easier repair? Shouldice is very complex?

I’m not denigrating either or any but at some point, like everyone, I have to choose

Monika, who in German were you thinking of? I’ve considered Drs Koch/Weis/Lorenz. And also Dr Kang and Prod Desarda.
    Still not chosen!!!

Like Dr Kang and the German Drs there are a couple of less than positive reviews for Dr Yunis.

Not sure it is possible to find a surgeon with 100 percent good reviews!

    So difficult to decide.

    Then there’s cost!!!

Please EU, do keep us updated as it means a lot to those considering surgery to hear from the really good, successful ones.

And thanks to Thunder Rose for posting 2 years later! Appreciated

    Hello Mark,
Did the Shouldice cut cremaster muscle and/or any nerves?

I’ve read that you don’t get to choose surgeon so you could have someone who is very experienced, experienced, inexperienced or training.

Glad to hear yours went fine.

Thank you Stephen, could I ask what does the hospital do if there should be a reoccurrence?

It would be very useful to know as I, and some other posters, are considering a repair with Dr Kang but as we are miles overseas it would be good to know what happens if there is a problem?

Also what are covid restrictions from say UK,
    USA,
    and Australia?

    Many thanks.

    Hello Monika

The first part relates to hiatal but after that umbilical… It lists the selected yoga exercises that can improve umbilical hernias. Also some other exercises like bicycle legs I think it said…. I don’t know if all (or any) will be suitable with an inguinal hernia though. I wouldn’t want to help one and make other worse.

If you Google hernia bible, there are exercises there for non surgery cure of inguinal. However of the two testimonials (besides the author) that it worked for them, one later had to have surgery it’s claimed. But at least the exercises it lists you know should be ok with inguinal. From memory they are essentially ones on your back I think.

    Yoga for umbilical

Hernia bible can be found by googling I expect as that’s how I stumbled non it.

I’ve not had any surgery Monika. But Simon Bailey was trained by the Jones’s who did tissue repairs in UK. Again it’s very hard to find reviews for Simon Bailey. I’ve not come across any for his shouldice hernia repair but he was spoken highly of on patient info forum for mesh removal.. And through googling I found an article about the dancer James Jordan having had his hernia op with Simon Bailey. (I suspect this was a sports hernia not our type of hernia, although it wasn’t made clear).

If someone else had a repeat at 7 days via Dr Kang that is a worry. Did you find that out on thia forum? I’d love to read about it.

I’m wondering whether Dr Kang’s figures are as accurate in that case as I was hoping they were. I wouldn’t want 12 hour flight and a recurrence. What a dilemma.

Beginning to favour Desarda again. But where to get it done???

Wow! Not sure that’s appropriate. But hope you get my drift… And I thought I was hard done by!

I know for inguinal some people say light yoga (certain) exercises, lose weight. Maybe same for umbilical.

Monika, as far as I know umbilical hernias are less problematic repair wise than inguinal as the inguinal canal has a lot of stuff, muscles, nerves etc (even more stuff if male) in a small space) so if I have it right umbilical is less problematic than inguinal and you have umbilical not inguinal that may be a bit of good news for you. Hopefully a brainier person will tell us both soon if that’s the case!!!

    Hello again Monika,

What were the 2 bad results with Dr Kang? As I am thinking of a Kang repair?

As far as Desarda, I have seen some negative comments on another forum, hernia bible, but I made a mess of signing up and it’s difficult to search, well I find it so.

However if you go on to it the forum access is towards botom of menu lh side. You don’t have to join to read.

The number of positives for Desarda on there outweight negatives, but the bad ones did make me reconsider Desarda.

That’s the problem, there isn’t a single system that has nothing but good reviews so I go from Desarda to Shouldice to Dr Kang then back again.

Would recommend asking how many Desarda ops the Australian surgeon has done.

Is it because mesh is easier that it caught on? That and promoting mesh as strong probably.

The recurrence rate is also often cited.

    Thanks Watchful but …

Do you think the NHS in UK would do them?
If it’s private it would cost a fair bit I’d imagine.

Watchful and Good Intentions ref steel and prolene …

What would you advise for me of the 2?

As I’ve said before I get red, itchy skin from some (not all) metal zips (on neck from jumpers and coats with high zip up), belt buckles, watch backs…

I think, although not scientific, thar it’s the cheaper ones. Tend to be more brass coloured.

Would I be able to risk steel or prolene better???

    Hello Monika,

The UK is also limited Monika, sadly,
    The 2 I’ve discovered are
    Simon Bailey – Shouldice, private.
    Duncan Light – Desarda, NHS.

It all comes down to lack of training I think. And that the mesh op is relatively easy to do.

I feel there is a good opportunity in the UK for tissue repair, just waiting to be tapped. Same for Australia I think.

There’s many posts from both countries asking the same. If I had the money I’d finance a tissue repair centre in UK. I really do think it would be very successful. And satisfying knowing youre helping many people.

  • Thanks Watchful… Not sure, shouldn’t is as categoric as I’d like. I’m a bit worried about this as most surgeons seem to gloss over what they actually do with fancy terms like transect or transpose. Not sure what either mean!?

Hello Monika, I haven’t had any surgery so no personal experience of Dr Kang but I did search on here and lindzee or linzee or lindsee had an op there and speaks highly.

I just thought it was near.

I think somewhere in my mind someone did find tissue repair in Australia, I’ll see if I can dig it out – or someone may cine to our aid.

What negative have you found about Dr Kang?
