I wish that the discussion threads were in a sensible chronological order with quoted posts embedded in responses. Otherwise it’s hard to follow the train of conversation.

(Chronological makes better it so something don’t I have to read Thanks! this like.)

Just to be clear, it’s great that the thread for a particular discussion gets bumped to the top of the discussion page. This lets the reader know that there are new posts in that thread. However, it’s frustrating going through a thread trying to find those posts when they are scattered randomly throughout the thread. New posts within in a thread make much more sense when ordered chronologically while quoting the post they are referring to.

Franck, now that it’s in there and doesn’t hurt why not go with the flow instead of thinking yourself into a corner?

Good read, MarkH! You’re a talented writer. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Helpful shouldnt be considered weird. It might be fairly unusual, but in a good way. It’s also obviously the same writing style that Dr Kang has always had here, with information about his methods that only he would know.

    Kody,

Watchful has been an extremely welcome poster in this forum, almost always with measured advice and a willingness to share his own knowledge and experience. It would be a loss for the forum to have him deactivated.

As far as calling you anorexic, some context might be helpful. Had you been a Chuck character, you would have been at minimum about number 12. I’m not exactly sure why Chuck started doing this, but it’s been going on for the last few months. Usually, it’s been a harmless amount of fiction. When a new account is opened and the person posts with a full knowledge of the board and the Chuck style of speaking, its been pretty easy to see that it’s Chuck. Your post had the knowledge of the board, but Your story was more differentiated and believable than the previous Chuck personnas, and it wasn’t crazy to think that Chuck had done a more complete job of creating a character. The most unbelievable part of your post was the height and weight you gave. So, it was somewhat understandable that Watchful didnt believe he was actually offending a real person, but instead a fictitious one.

Just my opinion and I could easily be wrong, but Dr Towfigh’s statement might have to do with both sides of the whack-a-mole interactions. When we start identifying honest posters as Chuck, we’ve added to the problem. We don’t want to be driving away helpful posters like Dr Kang because we’re being petty with each other.

Kody, I believe you have Pinto’s story correct. Perhaps Pinto is reading and can confirm.

    Kody,
Here is a link to the Swedish Registry pain study scale. It has ratings for 1 to 7, but these are ratings after one year. So, obviously your pain will be worse for the meantime.

    https://herniatalk.com/forums/topic/is-this-swedish-pain-study-from-2021-to-2015-the-best-pain-study-to-date/

I can’t give you any guidance on the non absorbable having more pain. There was/is a poster here named Pinto who(m) I believe had the Kang repair (for indirect) back when Dr Kang was using absorbable. He had a recurrence which Dr Kang repaired, but Dr Kang has since switched to non absorbable because there are less recurrences that way, is my understanding.

Is this Swedish groin pain study from 2012 to 2015 the best pain study to date?

Thanks for the update, Kody. Dr Kang has verified your identity on the other thread.

Chuck, I know you’re reading this. The problem here with folks mistaking Kody as one of yours is a good reason to drop the name swapping. Honestly, I can’t say it hasn’t been somewhat fun to guess the ones that were you, but there is obviously a downside, as well.

  • Thank you Dr Kang for sharing your expertise and knowledge! We are privileged.

  • A 4 on the Swedish scale wasn’t really debilitating. I haven’t rechecked, but I believe it was an interference with normal activity at least once in the last week. I don’t believe the Swedish results I saw had percentages for pain less than the 4 level.

I don’t know which repair has the best pain scores. Might depend on whether indirect or direct. Desarda looks like it involves less tension for direct version, though I could be wrong.

  • Dr Kang has explained his pain repair using the scale that was used in the Swedish study. His pain percentage for level 4 pain was only 1.7% as compared to around 15% for 4 and above in the Swedish registry study. His results were low by comparison.

A better question for Dr Kang is whether the participants surveyed were only for the Kang indirect repair, or did it also include participants who had the Gibbeum repair?

I would also like to ask Dr Kang another question regarding how he tightens the transversalis fascia in his Gibbeum repair? Shouldice does double breasting. I think the original Bassini does something different.

Thank you for being so accessible.

Chuck, No name is obviously a very intelligent and we’ll researched poster, but I could see someone new dropping in and reading your post and getting the wrong idea about how dangerous open mesh is. Recently you were saying that you had questioned 70-100 people who had had open mesh with no major problems. So, I was trying to clarify some perspective on where these friends/acquaintances with the problems were from. I think it’s important to not exaggerate the problems so we/they can actually decide which is best. If a person is set on mesh, have you turned 180 and are now more in favor of lap?

Very interesting that No Name is Uhoh! It only rang a bell after Good Intention’s post that he was the poster who had the great questions for Dr Kang on what was maybe the best thread ever.

I have to ask whether you actually know these people, or are they people that you read about and possibly shared info with on a website? I can’t really see how an open lichtenstein mesh is likely to merge with the colon. The testicle loss could happen, I guess, but I think it’s rare. And someone laying in bed for ten years would also have to have been very rare. The odds of actually knowing all of these people by happenstance in one’s regular life seems about as likely as winning the lottery, or more rare.

Other than while sleeping, I wear a truss at all times. I think it helps keep it back. I know that it helps to keep it from hurting. The one I use doesn’t keep it totally reduced, but it does keep it from fully popping out. My only worry about the truss is whether it’s pushing the hernia wider as it keeps it from pushing outward. At any rate, I rarely notice my tennis ball hernia when I exercise. I do 14-16 minute walking miles, but I don’t get a sense that those are stressing the hernia any, at least with the truss on.

It is probably time for me to get it fixed, but from a discomfort level, I would almost rather never get it fixed. I’m just afraid of it getting out of hand.

I’ve had my hernia for at least 15 years. Now, I don’t recommend waiting 15 years to get it fixed, but I don’t understand why you think three months is a far time out. Does it hurt? It probably isn’t going to cause you to curtail your exercise. I wouldn’t be straining my groin lifting weights in the wrong way, but I don’t think running and walking are particularly damaging. I believe the experts say they are not. I could be wrong though.

CursedGroin, was your discussion with Herminius originally private? I’m just wondering why it didn’t show up under a thread (discussion topic) heading.
