It sounds like the worst part is behind you and your main issue got resolved. I still don’t know 100% what I have, but I’m hoping it gets resolved soon. Good luck to you.

I just read this post, and I had never heard of a hip labral tear. I wonder if that is what I have? I had one surgeon tell me I have a small hernia and I had one surgeon tell me I have a groin strain. My pain is actually worse in the morning. The pain wakes me up in the mornings. Not a terrible pain but a discomfort in the inguinal area. I have a BM in the morning when I wake up and I am not constipated. I eat a lot of fiber. Sometimes I feel a tiny bit of possibly an ache ,maybe not, after a BM. I have been reading so much on symptoms for hernias that I’m not sure if I’m just looking for that.
My main pain us where I have a bone and a muscle (according to my primary doctor). by my leg crease and a bit where my public bone is. I feel the public bone pain when I touch that area not usually without touching it. I can’t believe I FORGOT to tell both surgeons that it aches like a sudden pull and lessens over time when I place my legs in cris cross position or indian style. Sometimes I can put my legs like that without pain and sometimes I can’t without eliciting some pain but it depends on how fast I do it and the angle. If it is a small angle it doesn’t hurt but larger angle hurts. If I move the leg fast into that cris cross position it hurts. If slow it doesn’t always hurt. Does that new hint HERNIA or STRAIN or HIP LABRAL TEAR? I just lifted my leg to put it in indian style and it hurt like a tiny stab in a very localized place.
By the time, I go to sleep I get comfortable quickly and fall asleep without pain especially if my legs are straight while I lay on my back but lately sleeping my sides has been fine too. No women in my family have ever had hernias. So. i don’t know what to think anymore. I’m just not used to not being able to pull heavy doors or carry backpacks or put force on the leg where the pain is. Going up the stairs brings some pain. Some days it does not. And, lately I realized I step hard when I walk and I run a little bit to get to my phone, answer the door, get things in general all day long, so not being able to is really making me frustrated. Ice and heat help reduce the pain whenever I get it. Heat works quicker.
Reading that an MRA is best for a labral tear (I just looked that up), a dynamic MRI being best for an occult hernia, and that sometimes they produce false positives is also adding to the confusion. I read on here many people go on for years before they get an accurate diagnosis, and I would like to get pregnant in another 2 years, so I would like to somehow get help getting to the bottom of this. I am worried about getting pregnant and aggravating the health problem. Not sure what is the next step I should take if this pain doesn’t resolves in another few months.
Before I thought of it as an abdominal pain and these past few days I have been calling it a leg pain because my leg movement and pressure on my leg seems to trigger it more than anything else. Leaning down doesn’t bother me unless I bend my legs or stretch them too much to bend down. coughing and sneezing cause no pain.
I hope with these new leg hints I can get a little more resolution. Thank you so much.

I keep wondering if I slept wrong too. Did it hurt to stand on one leg as in the leg on the side where the hernia was at? And did it hurt to put heavy things on your lap? Was your pain at all aggravated by pulling heavy doors or lifting heavyish things? Did you ever feel the pinching sensation near the groin crease before the surgery? I agree with you, hernias are no fun. Having pains is no fun. They should teach hernia prevention to people in health classes in school if you ask me.

July 3rd is coming up. I hope you feel better once they take those sutures out. Keep us posted please. I ask you questions because we are both young, women, and thin. I was wondering what were the symptoms of your femoral hernia? You said you had fat trapped in it, right? I was starting to feel better, but yesterday I over did things, and started with pain a few hours later. I was just standing and not doing anything when my stronger pain began. I think it was a reaction to the stuff I did earlier in the day. Was the pain of your femoral hernia before you got surgery constant or did it come and go? Was it by your labia, leg crease, and knee? Were you able to lean down? Did it hurt to stand on the leg on the side where the hernia was? Did it hurt in your lower abdomen too? Did you have a bulge? I hope your situation gets better soon.

Hi Mela, I was wondering if they told you why they didn’t use dissolvable sutures on your very small hernia in the first place? Is it because they use permanent ones and only use dissolvable one if the permanent ones give trouble? YOu said they said if necessary they would put in a few dissolvable sutures in there. Are they considering not putting anything in there the second time around? After reading so many stories, I see many people end up having more than one surgery for a hernia repair which makes me wonder why they don’t test the people for allergies or sensitivity to the materials used before surgery. It would certainly avoid a lot of physical pains.

Hello Doctors and women who have/had hernia,
any info as to which repair type is better for young women with inguinal hernia who want to get pregnant in the future? is there any research out there on pregnancy after a desarda repair? I feel trapped because I read on here that young thin women are more prone to possibly having mesh problems. I am also very sensitive, if not allergic, to many metals. Thank you. -
George, I don’t know if you check this anymore, but if so, who did your repair and how are you doing now?

I’m glad to know that it is uncommon for a female hernia to incarcerate. I was so worried about that. I had been hoping to find a surgeon who might be able to repair my hernia without mesh. Thank you again.

Hi Dr, Towfigh, That is good to know. I have found a lot of useful information and clarification here. Thank you for helping us.

Mela,
I hope you get over your flu soon and that your surgery goes well. Keep us posted. Good luck to you too. -
Hello Dr. Towfigh, Yes, that would be helpful. Also, perhaps the type of repair they offer Desarda, Shouldice, type of sutures. Please keep us informed when you start the site. I know I am very worried about the hernia surgery that I need to have after reading about so many people suffering after mesh repairs and some even having a problem with just suture repairs. I am a woman, and I read somewhere that women are more likely to experience problems with mesh than men. Thank you.

All the surgeons recommended on this forum are really far from where I live. Does anyone recommend any surgeons in Illinois who do pure tissue inguinal or femoral repairs? Thank you in advance.

I read this and am now wondering which type of sutures they will sew you up with the second time to avoid a reaction to the sutures like the one you had? I’m worried about the materials used when my hernia or hernias get repaired after reading your experience and others on here. I get reactions on my skin to many materials, so ideally I would like dissolvable sutures, but I don’t know if any surgeons use dissolvable sutures to sew up inguinal or femoral hernias? shouldice repair doesn’t leave anything foreign in your body, but I don’t think they perform it on femoral hernias, and from what I read sometimes they won’t know if it is inguinal or femoral until the actual surgery. It would be rough to take an plane and pay for accommodations out of pocket to get a surgery done for a shouldice repair only to find out you need mesh because it is actually a femoral hernia. Can surgeons repair femoral hernias without leaving anything foreign in the body?

I was diagnosed with a left inguinal hernia a month ago. I’ve had pains on and off (now more constantly) for almost 4 months. Three days ago, I noticed a tiny lump smaller than a grape on my left side right where the line to my pubic bone starts but about an inch to the left where they said I had the hernia more or less and another lump the same size and feels the same way right on top of my public bone. the second lump is in the middle on top of my vagina between my two labia. First I thought it could be a pimple but it is not. Could I have a hernia right in the middle there too? I am so worried about my hernia or hernias becoming incarcerated that I can’t sleep at night. I didn’t feel these lumps for sure when I got the diagnosis. I get pains on the left side now all the way to my thigh, the back of my knee, and the big toe. When there is any weight on my left leg it hurts. I have a hard time finding a comfortable position to sleep in because having my legs too close together tightly also hurts. left was hernia diagnosed by valsava during ultrasound.
