@oakcomihow is the pain after 4 months?

I scrolled down to the bottom of the main page where a box with a new topic can be completed

I think medicine has been sidetracked by the machinery of it, and the patient is not the focus anymore….hopefully we will move from treatment stats in a population to personal medicine where the personal response matters and can be measured and determined..

PeterC “There is tension free pure tissue repairs for your traditional inguinal hernia repair much like the tension free mesh repair (lichenstein, etc.).” Which ones if I may ask? Shouldice etc? I understand sports hernia is not really a hernia to begin with…it’s interesting it’s not so publicly known so well what athletes opt for or are taken to when a normal hernia occurs….I know British athletics doesn’t allow mesh implants though ….it seems eventually they will be able to create meshes out of cloned cells from the patient which would resolve some of the issues….

I am just wondering, can one get chronic pain after years from an inguinal hernia repair without a mesh? I would assume that this can only happen with meshes…

Btw i am not super fit….I am almost 50 but in good shape and do train….184 cm for 73 kg so I am not overweight for sure…..(hoping this is not bad for surgery)…quite frankly I would choose a higher risk recurrence lower risk chronic pain any time….

PeterC when you said ‘( I know of people whose inguinal hernia have healed after a long time and they were in optimal shape/balance) ‘ you meant it took people a long time to recover from surgery despite being in optimal shape/balance? Or did they recover without any surgery somehow? (mind you, I ask out of curiosity, I don’t think this would apply to me anyway)

So the size is inferred from the presence (size) or not of the bulge? or is it something that is determined at surgery and the surgeon acts consequently?
-
Yes I agree with you. I will be seeing some doctor(s) next week, and have already contacted some others in Europe…at the very least I have some options (all of them expensive to a certain degree)…I have also a scheduled ct scan and surgery discussion end of February but if I find the right surgeon before I might go for it and not wait….definitely the discomfort has increased, and although the odds of an emergency are in my favour, I just want it controlled so I can eventually go back to my previous physical activity…also I have had onsets of back pain which I think are related to the hernia somehow..

MemberJanuary 11, 2020 at 10:33 am in reply to: Mesh debate in the United Kingdom ParliamentYou mean only general doctors were involved? Or just statisticians? As for the animal testing (which makes me shudder) animal behaviour such as normal movement will be impaired by pain….in any case it is clear that these implants should be thoroughly tested BEFORE being used! Personally I would also make the penalty/ fines for breach of conduct much more severe! To the point of making any fraud a penal crime ie people from the responsible companies should go and stay in jail

MemberJanuary 11, 2020 at 9:16 am in reply to: robotic-assisted laparoscopic non-mesh hernia repairs?Does it mean that when the hernia is small can actually be repaired without a mesh? Why robotic and not laparoscopy if I may ask? They are so different?

-
Shouldn’t the Ultrasound also mention the possibile size of a direct hernia? or is this something that cannot be determined by the ultrasound exam?
-
Ah no they also mention “small direct ones”…
-
I checked it out…they say on their website that the mushaweck procedure is only used for sports hernias and indirect hernias…..so it cannot be used for direct ones?
