Thanks Roger, appreciate the update. I can’t remember where you went from. Which country.
It takes a long time for things to settle after surgery/treatment it sounds all is going well.
I had niggles for about a year after a lump (not hernia) was removed from my stomach. I kept thinking it can’t still be op, but I think it was.

You could try emailing and asking these people who offer yoga and exercise for hernia. They do say avoid certain exercises

It’s quite an interesting read in any case.

And to Good Intentions for the find.
I have read before that existing chronic pain seems to or can influence post operative chronic pain. However, I’ve read quite a few articles about hernia mesh injured who say the hernia didn’t even trouble them that much prior. So it can’t be the sole cause and can’t mean you cannot get chronic pain if your hernia is largely asymptomatic at time of surgery.
Which is a shame but perhaps those that say don’t leave a hernia could be on to something. Although being a bit of a non risk taker, I’ve left mine at the moment, it will be 2 years soon since I noticed it.

And it does sound as though Watchful’s pain improves as each day goes by. I think I read Desarda cash take 2 years to come to full strength.

Simon Marsh of 108 Harley Street, think this is Shouldice based repair but in cases of “large” hernias a mesh plug is placed.Anyone have any more information on this surgeon at all?

Pain after surgery does longer for quite a time even with less serious surgeries.
Also I recently burnt myself quite badly, and although recovering, I get sporadic pain over a month later. During periods of burn pain. I did think that considering what’s involved in hernia surgery pain for weeks and months after is not perhaps unsurprising.

Would Desarda be classed as a standard tissue repair Watchful?
-
Think it’s the other way round really. It’s a very valuable resource for many. Nothing else like it. Many thanks

I think the Germans resect but not sure what that means!

MemberFebruary 10, 2023 at 10:07 am in reply to: Tissue repair experiences – pain and recoveryI thought there was an American (?) Surgeon who presented to a conference that he was using / trialling a tissue repair usually used in children for adults. It was high litigation I think… Would that be Marcy? Watchful?
I think I’v linked to it and I think Good Intentions has.
I do get a bit mixed up so could be wrong but it may jog someones memory.
The recurrence thing though would tie up with what you heard about 2 out of 4 being there for recurrence?

Oh it was Wilkerson… Heres article about him and Dr Kang

David, thanks for the reply… Have you seen the article about the cyclist with a heart condition Dr Kang successfully operated on… It was one of the first articles I read about Dr Kang and it’s impressive. I’ll see if I can find it, I think the cyclist was called Peterson?

I’m pleased you linked to another Desarda study Jack as there seems to be a few that view it in a positive way. I put this in a thread “new study in Germany” I’m not sure if you saw it so here it is

I’ve yet to see a bad report but it’s still not caught on

-
Have you had any surgery David? Or are you thinking of it. I just can’t decide where or who or how.
Sometimes Dr Kang seems best.
Then people post his work is not well known or peer reviewed, not sure what that means actually. Then Shouldice but dont fancy the waking up during cutting etc.
The Desarda – but cutting into good tissue!?
I’m not anatomically minded so I don’t know all the details as you and others do!
-
I always thought the dominance of mesh Watchful was down to it being easier to perform than most tissue repairs as well as less recurrence.
I thought it took longer to train for Shouldice etc than mesh and greater anatomical knowledge was needed?
Maybe I got that wrong.
With reports showing Desarda is pretty much on a par with mesh for good results there must be a reason for it’s lack of uptake? Especially as of the tissue repairs it is allegedly easier to learn? Isn’t it?
-
I always understood tissue needs to be good for most tissue repairs, both Shouldice and Desarda. I’ve read recently a Desarda patient had a recurrence and that was solved by a second Desarda – so tissue must have been brilliant
I think Dr Kang is one of the few that can perform tissue repair when others can’t or won’t.
