Additionally Good intentions I’d be interested in your interpretation of the Desarda study linked to.

Is it saying in long term it’s a good repair?

Oh yes I see what you mean, I didnt mean to be Insensitive or imply once the mesh is out it’s all fine. I know that people with mesh are pleased to get it out and usually say things along the line of I can walk better and without a stick for example. Which is far from perfect I realise but much better than they were with mesh inside.

I think Chuck went from pain and prostatitis to much improved. For example but still with issues.

I can see why Simon Bailey (Shouldice 2 or 3 layer) stresses chronic pain etc is still possible with tissue repair on his website.

Thanks Watchful, I’m assuming it’s pretty much the same, nerve block, painkillers etc but you can’t undo a tissue repair like mesh can be explanted.

There’s quite a few studies ref Desarda, this one is a long term follow up. I’d appreciate the more intelligent posters views as I have trouble understanding these.

I never fully understand all these studies but to me it sounds as though they taught Desarda tissue repair to a number of surgeons which is a big step, I wish we taught tissue repair in the UK.

I also think it says recovery from initial pain was slower in Desarda group. This is the impression I have of tissue repairs in general and I’m sure it’s what Alan and watchful suffered.

It’s a bit ambiguous if, of the two people with persistent pain after Desarda, 1 had pre existing arthrosis or if this person was a 3rd.

Strangely a consultant I saw in UK and does tissue repair was a bit dismissive of chronic pain and said the patient may have had existing conditions like arthritis!

It’s encouraging that there is some acceptance of mesh causing chronic pain and tissue being an alternative!

By the way with mesh and chronic pain the mesh can be removed… What remedial steps can there be after a tissue repair?

  • I hope Dr Kang still posts on here as it’s a vital way for some of us to glean information. He has been asked what he does before and has answered. I hope he continues to.

  • I was hoping Dr Kang would be invited on to a Dr Towfigh discussion as I’d be keen to learn more.

Experimentation in my opinion is not the right word as Dr Kang uses established techniques and modifies them – as a lot of surgeons do as far as I understand things – especially with Shouldice, even Shouldice do modify their procedures it seems.

If Thunder Rose had not asked her long list of questions to her surgeon, it’s doubtful she’d have known all that was done or going to get done to her. Thunder Rose had an obvious knowledge of anatomy and the surgeries, a lot of it went over my head.

Thanks Good Intentions, it’s so underhand.

I read on another (Facebook) forum/group that Johnson and Johnson have won every mesh case so far – I can’t see that being true? Does anyone know if it’s true?

Was it the hernia that caused the hula hoop type internal ring or the other problem? Excuse my lack of anatomical knowledge.

Thanks for that Roger, if you get time can you update us again in a few days and/or week as quite a few of us have Dr Kang down as our preferred choice.

Many thanks and good to hear it went well

But wasn’t it Dr Koch that put mesh in Baris when he as expecting a tissue repair? Got Baris to lie so Dr Koch made more money? And who Baris was saying he would sue, and/or Bio hernia, for negligence?

Thanks Watchful, I don’t know how youve found all this but glad you did. Although it’s a shame youve found some negativity about Dr Kang. Up till now I wasn’t aware of much. Again there doesn’t seem to be any surgeon with near 100 percent. Probably more chance seeing a mermaid or unicorn.

I hadn’t heard of Jameda but apparently, accordingly to posts on Reddit, it’s one of those sites where doctors and surgeons can apply to get bad reviews taken off and also some fees can ensure good reviews No idea if that’s true but someone said they’d seem good doctors with bad reviews and bad doctors with good reviews so it may not be very accurate. Who knows.

So much of this is hard to establish the truth. I’ll try and see if any hernia talk posters have had good results with any of those 3 surgeons… I don’t recall reviews like we’ve had of Drs Kang, Yunis and Shouldice for example. It would be good to find some.

Thanks Watchful, I think the surgeon who seemed interested in my partner was one of the 3 you listed, I’m sorry to say. He may have been trying to lighten the mood. But I thought it unprofessional.

He also said it’s major to patients but just another case to the surgeon!!!

Put me off a bit, probably true but no need to articulate it like that.

At the meeting Chuck, my hernia is mostly symptom free so I’m reluctant to trade that for possible effects major surgery can have, although I appreciate the longer you leave things the worse they can get..However one UK (private) consultant did say at this time in my case the risks of surgery would be too high at present..or words to that effect.

Interesting about Tomas, as one of the German surgeons seemed interested in my partner – which I thought was unprofessional really. Also does Tomas do Shouldice and Desarda?

Do you have a link or quote about the group the poor patient started about failed Desarda repair.

That all sounds like good news Watchful and progressing albeit slower than you may want.

From what I’ve read it all takes time, more so after tissue repair.

The healing ridge can take months so don’t despair. Also the numbness, I once had 2 prolapsed discs pressing on sciatic nerve, eventually my leg went numb. It took about a year for normal feeling to return. That was nerve disrupion without major surgery so again in your case I think its a matter of time. As good intentions said, the body continues to heal so every reason to be optimistic.

It’s good you got the other issue sorted, if it’s ok to ask who discovered it and did Shouldice rectify or another surgeon/clinic?

Thanks for keeping us informed it’s very useful and appreciated.

Also I was quite struck by Pinto saying Dr Kang wouldn’t maim you or leave you in pain.

Then there are the posters, two I think it is, who have had both a Shouldice repair and a Dr Kang repair, with both saying Dr Kang was better.

Not a vast number granted but is it just coincidence that both found Dr Kang better?

My choice at this moment in time would be to lean towards Dr. Kang, Chuck.

    The distance puts me off.
The Germans would be an option as nearer but not sure which one is best. Muschawek has some bad reviews, don’t they all, and not sure she isn’t mote suited to sports ‘hernia’ that aren’t hernias.

I wish Dr Towfigh would think about featuring Dr Kang on the YouTube video interviews/discussions.

It would be a great opportunity for people, prospective patients and colleague surgeons, to find out more.

There must be a reason quite a considerable number of hernia talk posters have travelled there other than “marketing” on here.

Thanks Watchful, I appreciate you taking the time to reply and look forward to the update.

I’m getting the impression you feel mesh make have been a better option in your case?

After operation complications are a worry abroad definitely. I think though at least Dr Kang has done mesh repairs in the past.

Baris woke to find his German surgeon had decided to use mesh. It did cause problematic and Shouldice I believe helped him subsequently.

Clearly no fail safe surgeon or surgery.

I have seen suggestions that mesh is ok or likely to be in elder, 60 plus, patients, no idea if true.

In your own case, I remember Shouldice saying to me if tissue repair goes wrong you can always have mesh after. Might that be something you’d consider of beed be?

I’m still thinking yours is still early days and may settle in a few months.

    Wishing you the best.
