I didn’t inherit the daredevil gene!
Btw… What is PSA I’m your reply? Not prostate specific antigen?

MemberSeptember 15, 2022 at 1:10 pm in reply to: Sexual Disfunction risk after repairThe risks seem to be becoming more and more. I’m tempted to put off surgery but find it frustrating that I can’t lift and carry like I used to before.
Also I have “slightly” enlarged prostate that will probably get worse plus general ageing wont make operation any easier I doubt.
Such a dilemma.

On the other hand my friend who worked for a family run business that was then sold to a large conglomerate that ran it for a time, then redeveloped the site for housing leaving him out of a job, does ring a few alarm bells to me.

Monika, I wish I had found somewhere but don’t let me put you off… They all do non mesh listed and may be really good.
It would be nice if someone could find some reviews about any of the UK ones but I’ve looked high and low and can’t.
Other than Simon Bailey in relation to mesh removal though!
-
Thanks Watchful. Who would you recommend in Germany? Are you still thinking of where you will go?
-
I’d love to not have to travel Monika but of the UK surgeons offering tissue most seem to favour mesh in first instant – and all point out just as much risk of chronic pain and more of recurrence with tissue than mesh.
It’s like they are reluctant to offer tissue repair.
Dr Pawlak seems to favour it though but only for very small hernias.
Hope I’m not doing any of them a disservice but that’s how it comes across.

This is quite a good list of manufacturerd and products. Tela is, apparently, one of the smaller players in the “highly lucrative” market.
The article says a lot of problems with mesh can occur up to 5 years after.
Is there such a thing as a best mesh?
There’s been talk if mesh register, it would seem it’s a common sense idea considering there’s so many mesh options.
Least problematic to most should be easy to identify.

Hello Virginia, I think 3 hours is arbitrary. If you feel the need to go every half or so the advice is see if you can hold it for an hour, the gradually increase that time to 2, then 3 to 3.5
Probably strengthens muscles and maybe increases bladder capacity.
-
Wouldn’t push or strain myself as can make hernia worse.
I’m male but this probably holds true…
Avoid alcohol and tea and coffee as they irritate bladder.
Try and retrain bladder by waiting 3 hours between urinating.
Drink cranberry juice and eat avocado.
Probably an idea to get a urine test to rule out infection as well.
Good luck

MemberSeptember 1, 2022 at 11:39 am in reply to: Surgeon recommendation in Oregon or Washington that repairs without mesh? The not choosing surgeon at shouldice is a worry. Especially as I remember someone posting on here that the one thing patients have control over is surgeon, so make sure to choose good, experienced surgeon.
Also surprised not more surgeons afe learning tissue repair as there is huge opportunity. Especially true in UK and probably Australia as very limited tissue repair options.
-
That’s ok David. If the repair was recent it may be because the testicle is going into the space where the hernia was, thats what one of the links says, and it sometimes rectifies and eases after time, that’s the good news. Hopefully that will happen with you too. And perhaps it’s just a matter of time until it’s ok again.
Know exactly what you mean about getting you down. My hernia is doing that to me… Not sure who or where I should have surgery and worried about after operation too!
-
I think it’s more likely to be the muscle? The cremaster.
It may a coincidence and not hernia related although that seems too much of one maybe.

Apart from that link there is a condition where men haveban overactive cremaster reflex a d the testicles go into body during sex or exeertion… I used to have to push one of mine down sometimes before I had hernia.

MemberAugust 15, 2022 at 11:10 am in reply to: Open no mesh inguinal surgery. Is this normal?Bob, this may help. Nerve damage can take a long time to heal depending on whether sensory or motor and whether cut or crushed. Those are the variables according to this. Sometimes intervention is needed, apparently, presumably to knit nerves back if they aren’t growing back.
Maybe ask surgeon if he thinks it’s nerve damage, if so whether it’s motor or sensory and will surgery be needed or not do they think?
Maybe ask the surgeon what might help healing
