Sounds like a recurrence.
It’s not uncommon for imaging to be misread by the way.

Responded to you in another post.

In short: problems that require mesh removal (with infection as the major exception) almost never pop up this many years after repair. They usually start in the first year.

If you were fine since 2014 until recently, then usually mesh removal is not the answer. Most mesh based pain occurs in the first year. Anything later is either a recurrence or something else not hernia related. Perhaps you have a sports strain.

Of course, I’m surmising based on the information you gave me. I would need more information to be able to definitively help treat your specific problem. But it’s not common to need mesh removal this many years later.

• Spanish you want a surgeon to have had laparoscopic experience for recurrent hernia repair after failed Lichtenstein. However, such a repair should not be that much more difficult than a primary laparoscopic repair.

Imaging can show if the mesh is folded, if there is a recurrence, and other causes for pain. It helps with planning of the next best step.

• If you do have recurrence from a Lichtenstein, and that’s the only reason for your symptoms, then laparoscopic repair is the best next approach.

Seroma or hematoma (fluid or blood collection) is not unexpected in the empty space where the hernia used to be. It goes away within weeks typically.

I suggest you pick a surgeon you trust and seek their consultation. Desarda and Kugel repairs are at two extremes of hernia repair options. It doesn’t make sense to choose between those two.

Fortunately, Europe has great surgeons.

Open preperitoneal mesh repair of Inguinal Hernia is one of many methods and definitely not less invasive than laparoscopic approach.

Pain is complex and there are many reasons for it after laparoscopic repair.

Mesh removal may be necessary but I would not do it u til there is an understanding of why you have the pain. Imaging is necessary. Triple neurectomy is not Indicated.

Surgery is not the first line of therapy or even the second line for sports hernias. Injections will help and rest. Most don’t use mesh for sports hernia.

Of course the cancer is not because of the mesh. It’s possibly, but we won’t ever know, the cause of chronic infection and irritation, similar to cancers seen at burns sites (called Marjolin’s ulcer).

About 20% risk of hernia on the other side within a few years.

Message me directly when any problems. I try to keep up with this.

We need to adjust the spam detector of the site. It’s way too sensitive. Thanks.

Some reacted in an inflammatory way to the fish oil. Sounds like you’re doing fine. And please read websites not funded by trial lawyers. 🙂

Thanks for sharing. Professor Conze is a fantastic surgeon and resource.

• No doubt we are overusing mesh. We need to consider more non- mesh repair a bit more than we are.

• If it’s related to the operation, this is typically secondary to postoperative narcotics use and/or generalize pelvic pain and will resolve.

You can’t sell recalled mesh.
Some CQur lots were recalled at one point because the packaging was defective, causing the coating on the mesh to dissociate from the mesh itself in high humidity.
The mesh is being used by many surgeons.

If you’re doing fine, do not worry about it.

also, on a separate note, a recall is not an indication for mesh removal.
