Yes Pinto, that’s a good idea! Re the ultrasound. I’m also thinking you may have said CT or MRI was better? Is that right?
Good news about kidney and battery, former of course much better and great relief.

What a coincidence Pinto, being in Korea upon noticing the hernia. Emergency is a risk too, you’re right. It played and preyed on my mind when I first discovered I had a hernia to the point of paranoia.
Then there’s age. I’m getting to be of advanced age so that needs to be factored in too.
I know I’ve probably asked this but where are you living? I’m in UK so whichever surgeon I use will be a reasonable trip and stay which adds to the need to make a right choice.

The problem with getting it addressed now is I could be swapping next to no symptoms for a whole worse situation. That’s the dilemma.
Do you know, Chuck, if Dr Kang can repair direct as well as indirect and also pantaloon hernias?
Like you I know a few people, directly, who have had mesh and no problems what so ever. Plus out of those, one of their sons had 3 hernias – all 3 mesh repaired non-issues. It’s baffling. Not one has had issues. They didn’t even know you can have non mesh and were all unaware mesh can cause problems.
That said, I’m not keen on mesh at all, although, as Pinto has pointed out, sine hernias would seem to need a mesh repair.

I do find that frustrating as I used to carry a lot of stuff although never into weight lifting. But I can and have adjusted what I do to delay surgery.
How long should I put it off – do people think?
-
Hello Chuck, still thinking of Dr. Kang as seems to have best results although that maybe due to doing fewer procedures than Shouldice clinic which seems like a hernia repair factory.
I don’t have loads of symptoms so have delayed as I could be swapping few rk no symptoms to something much worse. I know you’re now favouring early intervention?
One thing that does bother me is the ultra sound I had done by NHS said direct but all the consultants I’ve seen say by touch indirect. That’s one NHS consultant and two private. All 3 say indirect.
I’m worried it might be pantaloon and/or that Dr Kang is not so familiar with direct.
Maybe he can say if he can repair direct, indirect and pantaloon?

If you’re having a Dr Kang repair could you dona write up after do you think Dean?

MemberApril 11, 2023 at 1:33 am in reply to: Another Successful Surgery With Dr. KangHello Max, there aren’t many patients who have posted on here about their Dr Kang repair saying they had or have chronic pain. One had pain after operation but it resolved quite soon as far as I know.
The main problem according to people who have managed to read Korean reviews seems to be more about recurrence rather than chronic pain.
However as is always pointed out it is a risk with whichever inguinal hernia surgery is opted for.
I’m seriously considering Dr Kang as it is often stated it is not so invasive. And I’m impressed with all the testimonials his repairs have on here from patients who travelled.
The one recurrence was also put right but I think initially three was some difficulty with communication though. But it was rectified in the end.

That’s a relief! I think it was a bit tongue in cheek but disconcerting none the less. So I feel bit more at ease now!
Would or have ever considered having Dr Kang as a guest as I know a lot of people are interested in his repair?

Dr Towfigh, I understand it was a difficult question for you about who is best to repair your hernia, I fully understand because it’s just as hard if not harder for us who will have to choose and have an answer. Could you not help us by at least giving us a short list of say 3?
It isn’t very encouraging when a surgeon says of fellow surgeons, who we patients may pick, their technique leaves a lot to be desired!
If you don’t have an answer to who you’d choose please at least tell us who had poor surgical technique!?
-
Dr Towfigh may be best person to answer. Hopefully she will soon.

He carries and lifts and it doesn’t seem to bother him but I worry it will get incarcerated. He is 90, never had it repaired. He saw my hernia and said his was much larger. But at 90 the surgery could be hard going for him.

Might age and activity have something to do with it?

MemberMarch 9, 2023 at 2:41 pm in reply to: Another Successful Surgery With Dr. KangAll sounds good cpk. Thanks. It’s these reports that help others decide.
What happens if Dr Kang finds a complication whilst another patient is prepped and ready?
-
Is Dr Kang really over 60? I thought he was late 50s?
Wish I looked as good!
I must have had a hard, hard life! You’re right Chuck, it would be a shame if no one took over from Dr. Kang senior and the Kang repair no longer existed.
How is the FB group going? I’m not on FB myself but something access it via my fathers, he’s like Dr Kang in that my father doesn’t look his age either (90).
Not sure what happened to me . -

MemberMarch 6, 2023 at 1:11 am in reply to: UK Surgeons for Tissue Repairs a list, or beginning of oneJust seen one person who had non mesh by Simon Bailey had a recurrence about 7 months later. May have had a 2nd repeat non mesh repair but in the end went for mesh.
This may be an isolated case. Only other patient article I’ve seen about Simon Bailey was mesh removal and that was brilliant praise and success.

MemberMarch 3, 2023 at 2:13 pm in reply to: Diagnosed with bilateral inguinal herniasI believe British hernia centre does mainly mesh but one surgeon there did do do tissue repair, Martin Kurzer using Desarda. Scartersville who posted on here consulte with him and it was Martin Kurzer who suggested a German surgeon instead.
You may find a bit more about bhc by searching Scarletville old posts.
I didn’t realise Martin kurzer was no longer at the bhc .. I think he now has his own practice so another UK non mesh surgeon to the UK list.
On ibs I’ve read inguinal hernia can produce IBS like symptoms – not sure why but did read it somewhere.

Thanks Roger. Sounds really good. Only things putting me off Dr Kang is distance and hence cost too!

Was it mesh repair or tissue? And how long ago was repair? It may still just be settling down.
