Great question.
You are so sensitized, that I is very possible that you will also react to the knee replacement implants. They do contain polyethylene, to which you may react.
Contact Dr Tervaert. He has experience with ASIA syndrome in all sorts of implants, including joint replacement. He may have more experience than most others in this topic. I would think you would react.

Sneezing, coughing, vomiting exert a lot of abdominal pressure—-much much more than any sports.
I recommend prevention. If you absolutely have to cough or sneeze, I teach my patients to engage the abdominal wall (such in your abdomen) first. i feel that this tends to reduce the amount pressure transferred to the abdomen and pelvis.

My recommendation typically is to follow the data. Data supporting success of the Shouldice and Lichtenstein repairs far outweigh case reports of other techniques.

Exploratory surgery is almost never the first line. You likely have a recurrence. This needs to be worked up, with imaging at the very least. You need more information so there is a plan of care, before ever jumping into surgery.

The Maloney Darn repair in many ways inspired current mesh repair for inguinal hernias. It’s concept is very very old. They used to use silver filigree initially. It is basically many small back and forth sutures, effectively making a mesh in the body. The downside is there are multiple multiple suture points, plus tension, which may lead to chronic pain and tearing through tissues. It is only done in 3rd world countries who can’t afford mesh. The mesh is basically the darning without the sutures through the tissues, so less tension, less chronic pain.

Thanks for this
I helped a family member with a similar experience. Not hernia related, but was told info by her doctors that sounded wrong and dismissive. And if she hadn’t asked me to intervene and connect her with a doctor that had more skills and caring, she would have had a shorter life expectancy and poorer quality of life.
My two cents: doctors are human. We are not infallible. Many don’t like conflict. Many shy away from situations that make them uncomfortable, such as confronting a patient who has a poor outcome. Some have personality disorders, just like non-doctors. Most are overworked and tired.
It takes a lot of courage to admit mistakes, directly confront angry patients. Most medical systems are not organized enough to follow through with phone calls, messages, etc.
I’m not making an excuse. We can be better as humans. Certainly, it’s no fault of the patient to fall into a ghosting/communication trap. I deal with it daily for my own patients, family and friends, pushing the system to get optimal timely care and attention.

Sorry. I do not know of any hernia specialists, personally, in Colorado. There is a dearth of specialists in many of our States.
If you wish to contact Americas Hernia Society members from Colorado, you can search this site here: https://americasherniasociety.org/find-a-surgeon/
