MemberAugust 4, 2022 at 8:18 am in reply to: Other sites with good hernia repair discussionsThanks for putting links up.Good Intentions..however hernia bible forum may be down or defunct as I can’t access it from phone or PC. I can get on hernia bible itself but the menu for their forum button brings up an error 500 or 550 on both devices.

Have you still got pain after mesh was removed ajm? Is it less so though?
Thanks for reply. I don’t think I’ll be swayed into having mesh. It would be easier hospital and location wise. But as is often pointed out it’s to have a nesh repair after a tissue one (if need be)than vice versa.
That mesh works for some is pretty clear from a post on inguinal hernia support group UK where one person is weeks out from a mesh repair and just completed royal navy training lifting bergens (whatever they are but sound heavy).
Inguinal hernia UK group is a bit opposite of these sort of forums, a lot of mesh success with occasional disaster.
That said, by sheer fluke, there is a post from a us citizen saying they will only consider shouldice and with Dr Sbayi at stony brook. They say he has only had one recurrence!!!

Jack, I’m not medically trained but whilst waiting on more qualified answers from those who are I thought I’d just say I’ve seen videos, photos of desarda patients and many are both western and much older than I think you are.
You can also read testimonials on Prof Desarda’s site, some are from 60yrs plus western patients.
Finally a poster on here, Baris, had am unfortunate experience with Dr Koch and cane round expecting tisuue repair to find mesh. As far as I can make out it was because Dr Koch felt the tissue was not strong enough but Shouldice clinic, who saw and operated on Baris, subsequently stated it was good and strong enough for tissue repair and if they’d have done it, they wouldn’t have used mesh.
This isn’t to denigrate Dr Koch as I have seen glowing testimonials about him but it does show the tissue issue is subjective.

It can bee seen it was an indirect hernia repair by Dr Kang7th January, 2019
My name is Lindsay, Australian, age in early 60’s. My contribution is for anyone with an inguinal hernia that is considering travelling for a mesh-free repair. I relate how I reviewed my options when in this position, ended choosing a Kang repair, and my experiences in following this through in Korea. My experience was very positive.
..
Background
I had an indirect inguinal hernia for >10 years, which deteriorated quickly and needed to be fixed. My quickest option was a local mesh repair, which in my case was to be larger than average in scope, entailing an open operation and general anesthetic.
..
I did some internet searches and noticed concerns with hernia mesh repairs. These included unpredictable adverse responses to mesh in some patients, and that significant pain was not uncommon after the repair. I also found reports that large hernias carry a higher than average possibility of recurrence, and higher probability of problems with mesh pain. From this, I sought only mesh-free repairs, but found only one clinic advertising this option in Australia.
..
Non-mesh inguinal hernia repair options
I found “HerniaTalk” to be a good place to learn about non-mesh inguinal hernia repairs, and where they might be available. I encountered recent information mostly on Shouldice, Desarda and Kang repairs. I found a recent presentation by Dr. Kang that provided a very useful overview to inguinal hernia repair approaches – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzOyeRYysj4 . Hence, the Kang repair for indirect inguinal hernia appeared to me to be most suited to my situation. This repair is available at Gipum Hospital in Seoul.

Actually none of the other sites come close to this.
Perhaps we’ve taken it, and Dr Towfigh, for granted a bit.

linzee had an indirect hernia repaired by Dr Kang. It has held up for many years.
And, afaik, is still perfect.Linsay, according to Dr Kangs site, can also be contacted direct by email for further discussion.
Hope this helps Watchful

And, maybe, a special UK edition featuring the surgeons who perform mostly mesh but also offer, albeit to a lesser extent, non mesh repair.
Simon Bailey
Duncan Light
Dr Pawlak
Principally because little is known about their non mesh repairs, even in the UK. Admittedly this is a little selfish of me.
Additionally…
As Jack has said, Dr Kang would be an excellent choice for another -
Ah thanks Good Intentions.
I’ll search it out thanks.

But…there’s hernia bible, very sporadic posting.
Patient info has a forum and hernia is a subject that has it’s own thread’s
Plus inguinal hernia support group on Facebook

Sorry Good Intentions, what did ajm’s friends tell him? That mesh works ok?
At the moment Ive said yes mesh can work fine… But it can play up years later..
I do have that right?
I did say before the operation to them that when mesh works it works well. But when it goes wromg…….
-
Keyhole I believe.
It’s put a bit of pressure on me as Ive been told I’d be stupid not to let NHS do it…. But the horror stories are exactly that.
Would you ever consider mesh?
I just think it’s a massive risk. Yes if it works, it works perfectly but if it doesn’t…

Found it very informative.
Can’t think of any reason why it should have been obliterated unless accidentally.
Hope it comes back.
I learnt a lot.

This struck me too … basically saying not for use with patients who have aversion to porcine material and/or Polysorbate 20. WARNINGS
I didn’t they they did tests prior?
