@peterc I am glad Dr. Krpata offered you a surgical option. As for the risks of surgery, as you know there are always risks. The risk of losing a testicle is very rare in my experience.
I am also curious to know the details of your plan of care with Dr Krpata. Meanwhile, remember that in addition to your group here, please dial 988 to seek professional help to be able to handle the crisis in your life. I have treated many patients in dire straits, like yourself, and they are able to lead a much better life afterward.
I hope you choose to move forward with whatever the experts are recommending.

I never saw that Strattice ad. Very interesting that they would facility replace any explanted mesh. I wonder what the indications for explantation would be. Maybe infection?

got it.
thank you! -
Really depends on your risk factors, quality of tissues, imaging and what it shows, exact size and dimensions of hernia, etc. There is no one correct answer.

Mini abdominoplasty implies you don’t have a large pannus that would benefit from a full abdominoplasty. It will not change the outcome from an incisional hernia repair.
-
The original Lichtenstein technique and the Amid modification (which is what I use) are the best techniques for safe and effective hernia repair. And both have data to support them.
The reality is, similar to the Shouldice, Bassini, and laparoscopic repairs, many surgeons tweak these otherwise standardized repairs.

ModeratorJuly 4, 2022 at 11:41 pm in reply to: Question for Dr Towfigh – collagen diseases1. The collagen deficit related to the predisposition to hernias is genetic.
2. To date we don’t have strong evidence that supplementation with any form of collagen would prevent hernias. It definitely can’t cure a hernia once it forms.
3. Red light therapy is good to muscle strains as it can reduce inflammation and promote healing. It will do nothing for hernias.
4. No amount of pepper or other dietary change will cure a hernia. If you treat your constipation you may notice less protrusion of your hernia. -
No HerniaTalk Live Q&A this week. See you all back on July 12.
Happy Fourth!
