ModeratorOctober 9, 2021 at 7:11 am in reply to: How to tell the difference between Femoral and Inguinal Hernia– you are correct. Femoral hernias do not cause testicular pain
– unfortunately most ultrasounds are done poorly, so it’s not unexpected that they didn’t provide detailed information about what type of hernia
– watchful waiting is acceptable for asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic inguinal hernias but not femoral hernias
– Shouldice does not operate on non palpable hernias. -

For inguinal mesh, adhesions to intestines almost never occur.
Scar tissue occurs with any operation. Over time, it lessens.

I shared a lot about my philosophy on finding the right doctor for you. We hear a lot on this forum about who may be the best surgeon, for example. Know there is no one best answer. One surgeon may meet your needs and your personality whereas the same surgeon may not be a good fit for someone else.
My advice always: find the right doctor for YOU.

ModeratorSeptember 28, 2021 at 4:19 pm in reply to: Has anyone ever had or treated a lumbar hernia? They are almost always seen on imaging. If CT is negative, it may be just incorrectly interpreted. Also, bowel is almost never in these hernias. Usually they are only fat, so it should not affect your GI system.
I am happy to see you as an online consultation if you want to send my your imaging and symptoms to review.

I repaired a Grynfeltt just last week. I’ll post it in my social media.

What you saw was the sterile draping we use during surgery it is a large often blue canvas that is sterile and blocks off surrounding unsterile areas from the operating field. You do see it on TV as well. The anesthesiologist, who is not sterile, sits on the other side of the draping, near your head. The draping also helps prevent bodily fluids from spraying onto the anesthesiologist and your face.
The drapery has nothing to do with preventing you from seeing the surgeon’s activity.

ModeratorAugust 26, 2021 at 1:12 pm in reply to: New mesh use review article in General Surgery News – worth readingNot sure what you mean by “mesh implantation practices” and how you feel that pure tissue repairs somehow provide less remuneration to surgeons. It doesn’t. If anything, reimbursement for laparoscopic/robotic repairs which almost always involve mesh, is less for surgeons.

Inguinal hernias should be ordered as “hernia ultrasound” or “dynamic hernia ultrasound.”
Occult hernias are among my surgical interests. Yes, I evaluate for an treat many and I have published our experience about imaging and occult hernias.
