Few hernia specialists in Texas, if you can believe it!

Try Dr Kent Van Sickle in Houston
also, other great surgeons: Daniel Scott, Michael J Lee, Nicole Basa
also look up surgeons locally in Americanherniasociety.org

We don’t repair 12-year old hernias with mesh. Their biology of hernia development is different than in adults. Your pediatric surgeon will be the right one to follow.

you had Synecor hybrid mesh placed. It’s a good product. It’s not considered standard of care and so long term outcomes are clear from it. But the buzz about it is positive so far. Have not seen or heard of significant complications.

The achiness will go.

Hiway40blues time should heal this issue. The repair is sewn to muscles and ligaments. You contract your abdominal muscles and so it pulls on mesh (which doesn’t stretch). This should resolve. Keep active.

Mesh removal is indicated for a variety of reasons. Usually, for those reasons, waiting does not result in improvement, as it’s a mechanical problem.

A CT scan with valsalva and oral contrast is the next best step. It should show a small incisional hernia.

You’re all absolutely right. We have no standard for postoperative rehabilitation.

I believe that, similar to orthopedic surgery, there must be a good rehab program after hernia repair. General surgeons are not good st this stuff. We have no studies on it.

Slow deliberate stretching is good.
Yoga and Pilates is good once the early healing has completed
any core fitness is good. Nothing fast or jerky.

Soreness may be normal. These recover. Mostly it’s related to the dissection in the area, swelling or small amount of bleeding in the area, and/or the mesh in that space. Depending on the patient, technique, and type of mesh, there may be a foreign body sensation of stiffness. There may also be abnormality, such as folding of the mesh.

If after 3 months soreness is not gone or if the pain is severe, then imaging (MRI for groin) is the next step to help solve this puzzle.

Suture is no more difficult to remove than mesh.

Difficulty of surgery is not related to time

This data is not accurate.

We don’t know the real data.
We know from children there is a 15-20% chance of hernia on the other side. That’s a different hernia population than adults. also, left vs right has to do with male anatomy, so not applicable to females.

There is a lot we don’t know. So i would not make conjectures based on weak data to begin with.

Sounds like an incisional hernia.
If one has symptoms, it’s best to repair. Otherwise, can watch., usually.
Repair requires mesh. I prefer to place the mesh away from the intestines in these situations, especially given the past history of intestinal obstruction.
Malls, type of infection in the past is important. I change the type of mesh use if it was MRSA infection.

Time and rest are the best healers for sports hernia, adductor Or rectus tears or strain. We don’t operate usually for strains or grade 1 tears.

Do not have too many worries.

This site has had a lot of great success stories shared.

I recommend you continue to work. Standing for a long time will not worsen your hernia. I would make sure you are not constipated, no chronic cough, not overweight, and nicotine free.

I agree with looking into laparoscopic approach if you are ready for repair.

Many excellent surgeons in Germany :

Andreas Koch
Wolfgang Reinpold
Ralph Lorenz
Joaquim Conze
Reinhard Bittner

Most likely you did not injure anything and your repair is intact.

Sometimes, there are sheer forces of the mesh vs the muscle. This can cause the symptoms you experienced. They resolve with anti-inflammatory measures. You should be able to return to all your activities, including exercises.
