The repair is probably as strong as it going to get at this point.
Slowly increase your activities.

Dear Matti.
If you are concerned about a sports hernia, then an MRI with the Sports hernia protocol is your best test.
If you are concerned about a hernia, then a standing ultrasound with valsalva is your best test.

Please post a photo with a mark on the skin that identifies the site of your pain.
Do you have Normal skin sensation? Does the pain feel like it is deep or is the pain in the skin or subcutaneous tissues?
Does the pain cycle with your menstrual cycle?

You could just have a lipoma.
Do not worry and ask your doctor to check it for you.

If you do not have a bulge and if you do have pain, then I would not advise anything else to be done at this time.

For an inguinal hernia most of the healing is done by 6 months.
For a ventral or incisional hernia you need strength for years and a permanent mesh should be used.
The degradable meshes have not been studied long enough to know how long they last.

Most likely you just have a strain. I agree with seeing your surgeon and then make decisions based on more information.

See you local surgeon to be sure that you have a hernia.
He/she should be able to determine whether or not you have a hernia on physical examination.
Ask he/she if you have a direct or indirect hernia.
In a skinny athlete I always advise a non mesh repair.

What type of hernia do you have?
If you have an indirect hernia, then mesh should not be used.
If you are skinny then the risk for pain after a mesh repair is higher.

After the nerve block did your skin turn numb? If not, then the doctor missed the nerves.
Also consider a spermatic cord block and to have the mesh injected.
Review the the major nerves, you can determine which nerve is giving your trouble by the location of your pain.

It is rare that sutures cause trouble or that they need to be removed.
Prolene is a reasonable choice.
You will do fine.

Did the skin in the pubic hair area get numb after the nerve block. If it did not, then you did not have a satisfactory nerve block.

Adductor injuries often improve after a steroid injection.
Ask your local doctor to inject the origin of the adductor longus tendon and the surrounding periosteum with marcaine and decadron.
If your local doctor has any questions I would be pleased to talk with them.
If you do not improve in a few months, then surgery is an option.

Have the prostate evaluated. A distended bladder usually indicates that you are not emptying the bladder well. This will make the hernias worse.
Try to lose weight before having the hernia repaired.
Be sure to ask lots questions.

Dear ARKJ93.
If you are having side effects from the Gabapentin, then it is reasonable to try lyrica. But I agree that it is expensive.
You can try advil three times a day. Capsaicin cream sometimes helps. Baby powder after your shower.
A TENS is sometimes helpful. A nerve block is often helpful.

Dear Catbird.
The truss will not make the hernia significant worse.
It it helps, then use the truss until you can have repair.

MemberJuly 19, 2019 at 10:02 pm in reply to: Recently diagnosed inguinal hernia (UK, no lump, pain)Dear InguinalMedic.
You can try different positions during intercourse.
Is the pain in the testicle or in the scrotum?
If your pain is in the testicle then a spermatic cord block with some steroids might help.
You most likely have an indirect hernia. Strongly consider a pure tissue repair. During an open repair the spermatic cord and local nerves can be examined.

Dear GC1234
From what your describe, I doubt that you did any serious injury.
Ask your surgeon to carefully examine you to help determine if there is any problem.
Do not hesitate to contact the surgeon frequently if you do not feel like you are getting better.
Regards.
